1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Trellis, operated by Kerygma Code, LLC, doing business as Kerygma Code (“Kerygma Code,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information in connection with the Trellis website, mobile applications, and related services (the “Service”). It applies to members of churches and ministry organizations (“Churches”) that use Trellis.

Our role. Trellis is provided to Churches for their members. For most member information, the Church decides why and how the information is used and acts as the controller of that information; we process it on the Church’s behalf to provide the Service. This Policy describes our practices; a Church’s own privacy notice may also apply to its members.

2. Information we collect

Account and profile information. When you sign up and build your profile, we collect your name, email address, the Church you join (via a join code), your role (Discipler or Disciplee), and optional details you choose to add such as location, bio, testimony, areas of focus, years following Christ, and meeting preference.

Relationship and messaging content. We collect discipleship requests and their status, the conversations and messages you send through the Service, and related timestamps.

Moderation information. When a message is flagged, we collect the flag, the reason given, who flagged it, and related review and escalation records.

Technical and usage information. We automatically collect limited technical data needed to operate and secure the Service, such as log data, device and browser information, and authentication events.

Information about Minors. With Church and parental or guardian consent, Minors aged 13 to 17 may use the Service, and we collect the same categories of information described above for them. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

3. How we use information

to provide, maintain, and operate the Service and your account;

to connect Disciplees with Disciplers within their Church and facilitate messaging;

to enable Church Leaders and Platform Administrators to moderate flagged content and respond to reports;

to support the safeguarding model for Minors, including limiting Minor Disciplees to Church-designated Disciplers;

to secure the Service, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot;

to communicate with you about the Service, including service and security notices; and

to comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4. How information is shared within the Service

Trellis is a relational tool, so some information is shared by design:

Within your Church: your profile is visible to other members of your Church, and Disciplers appear in your Church’s directory once approved.

Between connected members: once a discipleship request is accepted, the connected Discipler and Disciplee can see each other’s messages.

With Church Leaders: Leaders can view a conversation only when it contains a flagged message, and only within their own Church. They cannot browse members’ private conversations.

With Platform Administrators: Kerygma Code personnel who operate the Service may access information as needed to run, support, and secure it, and to review escalated reports (including flagged conversations that involve a Church Leader).

5. How information is shared outside the Service

Service providers: we use trusted infrastructure providers (for example, cloud hosting and database services such as Supabase and Netlify) that process information on our behalf under appropriate obligations.

Legal and safety: we may disclose information if required by law or legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of any person, including to address a risk of harm to a Minor.

Business transfers: if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.

We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

6. Messaging privacy and moderation

Messages between connected members are private to those members, subject to the moderation model described above: flagged conversations become reviewable by Church Leaders (within the Church) and Platform Administrators, and conversations involving a Leader are escalated to Platform Administrators rather than shown to that Church’s Leaders. We access message content only as needed to operate the Service, respond to flags, comply with law, or protect safety.

7. Children and Minors

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. Minors aged 13 to 17 may use the Service only with verifiable consent from a parent or legal guardian, which the Church is responsible for obtaining and retaining.

To protect Minors, a Minor Disciplee may connect only with Disciplers the Church has expressly designated as eligible to mentor Minors. A parent or guardian may request to review, correct, or delete their child’s information, or withdraw consent, by contacting their Church or us at admin@kerygmacode.com. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and your Church subscribes, and as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it. On termination of a Church’s subscription, we handle data as described in our Terms and any applicable agreement, including available export or deletion options.

9. Security

We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encryption of data in transit, row-level access controls that restrict data to the appropriate Church and users, and administrative access limits. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Your rights and choices

You can review and update most of your profile information at any time within the Service. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. Because your information is often controlled by your Church, we may direct your request to the Church or ask you to contact them. To make a request, contact us at admin@kerygmacode.com or your Church Leader. We will respond as required by applicable law and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

11. Data location

We operate the Service in the United States, and information is processed and stored there. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States.

12. Third-party links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or resources that we do not control. This Policy does not apply to them, and we are not responsible for their practices. Review their privacy policies before providing information.

13. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice (for example, by email or in-app notice) before they take effect, and we will update the “Last updated” date above.
